LEGISLATION FORCES CLOSING OF CLERK’S ROYAL PALM BEACH OFFICE
Due to unprecedented legislation, the Clerk & Comptroller’s Royal Palm Beach branch location closed to the public on June 30. The closure is a consequence of state legislation that was supported by Florida judges, the Florida Bar, Rep. Ellyn Bogdanoff and Sen. Ken Pruitt. Senate Bills 2108 and 1718 also slashed 66 employees and $7.1 million from this office as of July 1.
With an annual loss of more than 210,000 work hours due to layoffs and a mandate from the Legislature to only provide core services, I have been forced to eliminate several practices that make access to the courts more convenient for customers. We’re doing our best to make cuts that have the least impact. However, since everything we do directly serves the public, any cut made adversely affects citizens in some way. Longer lines and case filing backlogs are expected.
As your Clerk & Comptroller, I am truly saddened by how our ability to serve you has been severely limited by this Legislature. If you are concerned about how these changes affect you, please contact your state lawmakers to voice your opinion.
Best regards,
Sharon R. Bock, Esq.
